Charlotte Hornets forward Marvin Williams will be out of commission for at least one week due to a shoulder strain, according to an official report from the team.

Williams, 32-years-old, suffered his shoulder injury in the second quarter of Sunday's 119-109 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans and did not return to play. The former second overall pick (2005 NBA Draft) left the arena with his right arm in a sling. He's set to be re-evaluated in one week.

Losing Williams is a tough blow for the Hornets, as he's a key member of Charlotte's starting five. In his 23 appearances with the Hornets this season (all starts), the Washington native has racked up averages of 8.3 points per game on 42.4 percent shooting from the field (34.0 percent from beyond the arc), 5.1 rebounds and just under one assist (0.9) in 24.8 minutes per outing.

“This is what you deal with in the NBA,” Hornets head coach James Borrego told ESPN, referring to the sudden rash of injuries his team is dealing with.

With Williams out of commission for the second half of Sunday's game, Borrego called on Miles Bridges. In 29 minutes of playing time, Bridges racked up 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field (3-of-6 from downtown), eight rebounds, one assist and two blocks. Borrego will likely call on Bridges again, as well as forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

The Hornets (11-12 and 1st in the Southeast Division) will be back in action on Wednesday night, when they'll travel to Minnesota for a match-up against the Timberwolves. Tip-off inside the Target Center is set for 8:00 p.m. EST.
