With the NBA trade deadline quickly approaching, the rumor mill has now started to flood with potential deals. There have been a number of notable names tied to rumors midway through the 2017-18 NBA season.

However, fans throughout the league were shocked to hear the Charlotte Hornets were open to dealing star point guard Kemba Walker. According to Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer, team owner Michael Jordan says the only way Walker gets traded is if it is for an All-Star player:

“Obviously, the season has been a disappointment so far, and there have been teams asking about players. Also, we’ve been asking about players,” Jordan said, with the NBA’s trade deadline looming Feb. 8. “We ask teams who they like on our roster and they always say Kemba.

“It’s not like we are shopping him. We would not just give him up. I love Kemba Walker. I would not trade him for anything but an All-Star player.”

The news comes as a bit of a surprise considering Walker has been the best draft pick Jordan has had since taking over the organization. After years of suffering at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, Michael Jordan went all in by acquiring a number of veterans to help take this team to the next level. Unfortunately, they all came with lucrative contracts that now have Charlotte paying a bit more attention to their salary cap situation.

The worst part about it is that the Hornets have largely underwhelmed all year. Their lone silver lining has been the play Kemba Walker, who appeared in his first All-Star Game last season. However, it seems his stint in Charlotte could be coming to an end if the team gets a good offer in the trade market.
