According to a report from Rick Bonnell of The Charlotte Observer, Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has been placed in the NBA’s concussion protocol program. As a result, he has been ruled out of Tuesday night's exhibition game against the Miami Heat.

Though he started, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist did not play in the second half of Charlotte's 115-112 preseason loss to the Boston Celtics on Sunday. According to Bonnell, the former No. 2 overall pick was not in attendance for Monday's practice session and is the only player listed on the Hornets' injury report.

The severity of Kidd-Gilchrist's symptoms are not known at this point, but he does have a history in this department.

Via The Charlotte Observer:

Kidd-Gilchrist had a concussion his rookie season; he was knocked unconscious in a collision with teammate Jeff Taylor in February of 2013 during a road game against the Houston Rockets. He was carted off the court in Houston and spent the night in a hospital for observation. Kidd-Gilchrist also had two major shoulder injuries during the 2015-16 season, which limited him to seven games that season.

Kidd-Gilchrist, now 25 years of age, made 74 appearances with the Hornets during their 2017-18 regular season campaign, racking up averages of 9.2 points on 50.4 percent shooting from the field, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.0 assist in 25.0 minutes per outing.

Though he played at the small forward position for the majority of last season, new Hornets head coach James Borrego has elected to move Kidd-Gilchrist to power forward.

Tuesday night's match-up between the Hornets and Heat is set for 7:00 p.m. EST inside The Spectrum Center.
