Charlotte Hornets All-Star point guard Kemba Walker has established himself as one of the top players at his position over the last few years.

The steady improvement in his game along with stepping up as the prominent leader of the team has caught the attention of head coach Steve Clifford as he recently voiced much praise toward Walker, according to James Herbert of CBS Sports.

That freedom was earned. “He's a student of the game,” Clifford said, praising Walker's professionalism, pride and desire to win. When he is at the front of the room like a teacher's pet, he is “not doing it for show,” Hornets guard Jeremy Lamb said. Every game, Walker must know the ins and outs of what Charlotte and its opponents are trying to do. He wants to reward his coach for having confidence in him.

Kemba Walker has continued to play at a high level this season for the Hornets, currently averaging 21.5 points on 43.3 percent shooting from the field along with a career-high 6.6 assists per contest through the first 13 games played. His elevated level of play coupled with his increased responsibilities as a leader has helped bring much stability to the team

More importantly, the 27-year-old has engrained himself as the face of the franchise that the team has built around. It is a role that he has taken on in stride and his play has backed it up averaging more than 20 points and five assists in each of the last three seasons.

Although the Hornets have struggled through the first few weeks of the campaign, there is an opportunity for Kemba Walker to will his team back into the postseason and further establish himself as one of the top point guards in the league.
