Charlotte Hornets guard Tony Parker might miss the team's game against the Indiana Pacers, as he continues to deal a back strain.

Although Tony Parker has been significantly healthy for most of the season, he has been dealing with minor injuries like this back strain. This is not expected to be a serious one though, and the Hornets could have the veteran guard back this week.

Charlotte signed Parker last summer with the hopes that he could help the team make the playoffs. He's been posting up decent number this season, averaging 9.6 points, 3.8 assists and 1.5 rebounds while shooting 45.7 percent from the field. The five-time champion has been doing his part to help Charlotte hold on to the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Hornets recently claimed guard Shelvin Mack off waivers after being released by the Atlanta Hawks a couple of days ago. He will serve as an insurance policy just in case Parker will need a significant amount of time to recover from his back injury.

Parker's role with the Hornets is to serve as a veteran leader for a team that hasn't seen much success over the past couple of years. He's also become a mentor to Charlotte's All-Star and cornerstone, Kemba Walker.

It is unclear if Parker will remain a Hornet for the remainder of his career. Although he mentioned that he wants to retire with the San Antonio Spurs, it is obvious that he hasn't thought about that yet. Right now his focus is to be healthy and to be able to contribute to the Hornets' postseason push.
