Mitch Kupchak was asked about Kemba Walker's future with the Charlotte Hornets, and he said that he would like to see Walker retire with the Hornets. It sent the NBA world abuzz thinking that meant the Hornets had no interest in trading him, but another comment Kupchak said, could leave the door open for that opportunity.

“He is on a (contract) that may make it a challenge going forward to figure out (the best course) before he becomes a free agent,” Kupchak said via the Charlotte Observer.

Those quotes make it seem like Kupchak would love to see Walker with the Hornets beyond next year, but if they don't think a long-term extension can be reached, look for the team to try and trade him.

One of the teams that were rumored to have an interest was the Cleveland Cavaliers but they weren't willing to part with their first-round draft pick and a deal wasn't reached.

There is still a chance a deal could be done, but unless the Cavs are willing to give up Collin Sexton, chances are low it will get done.

How much of a market besides with the Cavs is hard to gauge for the former All-Star. He will be an unrestricted free agent after next year, so it would be a good chance it would only be a one year rental.

If the Hornets do find a trade partner for him, that would be a good indication that they are ready to start their rebuild.
