The Charlotte Hornets are looking to grab a prospect in the event that he remains to be available when they pick with the third overall selection in the 2020 NBA Draft. Hornets team owner Michael Jordan reportedly expressed his desires for his team to select LaMelo Ball come draft night.

Via The Ringer's 2020 NBA Draft Guide by Kevin O'Connor:

“If the Hornets keep the third pick, league sources say Michael Jordan has given his stamp of approval for the front office to select LaMelo Ball.”

After a season, the team remains in search of a reliable playmaker with the departure of former mainstay Kemba Walker who previously took his talents to the Boston Celtics. The former UConn product was at the helm in Charlotte for eight seasons since he was drafted in 2011 and concluded his final season with tallies of 25.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 5.9 assists.

The Hornets failed to find his replacement which led them to garner a dismal 23-42 record to nab the 10th spot in the Eastern Conference. With a valuable pick at their disposal, the Hornets could center their rebuilding cause around the youngest Ball brother in LaMelo Ball who emerged to be one of the most intriguing prospects in the incoming rookie draft class.

He recently showcased his offensive prowess and all-around game in his most recent stint with the Illawarra Hawks in Australia's National Basketball League where he averaged 17.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 6.8 assists through 12 appearances.

His eventful playing experience overseas should help him as he looks to transition to being one of the main guys of a rebuilding squad like the Hornets that is hoping to secure his services moving forward.

LaMelo Ball should be getting a ton of confidence especially after getting approval from arguably the game's greatest player. Draft night will see whether Michael Jordan's Hornets can successfully land their franchise cornerstone of the future.
