It's no secret that Game of Thrones didn't exactly end well, particularly for those who have been following the show since it premiered in 2011. While it started very strong, the momentum it built during the first four seasons gradually waned until the series ended last 2019. But if the latest House of the Dragon trailer from HBO is any indication, it looks like redemption is near the horizon for this franchise.

In a House of the Dragon teaser released by HBO just recently, fans can see more of what Westeros was like during a time when dragons reigned in the sky and House Targaryen is ruling the Seven Kingdoms. As it starts, a haunting line sets the tone for what the whole series can be.

“What is this brief, mortal life, if not the pursuit of legacy?” An unknown character asks.

The scene then shifts to a montage of lords from different houses swearing their loyalty right before Viserys I, namely Stark, Baratheon, and Velaryon. At that point, the whole conflict of House of the Dragon is made known. It is revealed that his daughter, Milly Alcock's Princess Rhaenyra, is the next in line to inherit the Iron Throne. This fact does not sit well for some, most especially Matt Smith's Daemon Targaryen.

This revelation is a sign that the suspense, drama, and compelling characterization Game of Thrones is known for is making a comeback here in HBO's House of the Dragon. And since this part of Westors' history has already been established, there won't be any issues regarding a troubled ending like those encountered by its predecessor.

Instead, the series can focus on expanding the world built by George R.R. Martin, and make it more accessible to viewers. Of course, that can only be known when it does come out in August. In any case, this latest House of the Dragon trailer promises to match, if not exceed, what Game of Thrones has achieved in pop culture.
