The Houston Texans enter the 2022 NFL offseason with plenty of holes to fill and 23.67 million in cap space to get it all done. General Manager (GM) Nick Caserio needs to find Houston a quarterback and head coach of the future while also dealing with a potential Deshaun Watson trade. The coach will be picked soon and then 2022 NFL free agency will rear its head. While Caserio will probably not be able to fix the quarterback situation in free agency, he should be able to use the available cap space in an effort to make this a competitive football team.

The Texans division has notoriously been one that has plenty of turnover at the top from one year to the next so Houston knows that are just a year or two away from competing. Here are three free agents that the Texans should target as they try to get back on top of the AFC South for the first time since 2019.

Texans Free Agent Targets for 2022 NFL Offseason

3. J.C Jackson | CB

Jackson is one of the best available cornerbacks on the market this offseason and that is exactly what the doctor ordered in Houston. The Texans were one of the worst secondaries in the league in 2021 and Jackson would immediately step in as the number one cornerback in their defense. The good thing about Jackson is that he comes from an extremely “multiple” system in New England where he was asked to change up what he was doing from week to week. Whether it is zone coverage, man-to-man, blitzing, or run defense, Jackson can do it all and would be a great addition to any team. He also has familiarity with Caserio from their days together in New England.

2. Marcus Williams | S

Williams is looking at a big payday after playing out the 2021 season on the franchise tag. Of course, the New Orleans Saints could throw a wrench into his free-agent plans by tagging him for a second straight year. That is not likely, however, with the Saints looking like a rebuild candidate and having the worst cap situation in the league. In steps the Texans as the ideal landing spot for the former University of Utah star. As mentioned before, Houston's secondary was atrocious in 2021 and Williams would immediately step into their lineup as perhaps their best defensive player.

1. Ryan Jensen | Center

This one may seem like a bit of a long shot, but why not shoot for the stars? Jensen has started every game and played every single snap since coming to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2018. With plenty of teams with available cap space looking for interior offensive linemen, though, it is not likely that the Texans will be able to get Jensen to sign on the dotted line. He will probably want to play for a contender after getting a taste of the playoffs the past two seasons. Jensen is also a Super Bowl champion, having won the title last year with the Buccaneers.

If Caserio can get even one of these players onto the Texans' roster, he will have done his team a huge service. If he gets two or three of them, he might be the executive of the year. All jokes aside, the Texans also have holes on the roster at QB, RT, WR, TE, and much more in addition to the positions listed today. It has been a year since Houston's Bill O'Brien experience was mercifully ended and the team has yet to make substantial progress. If they are sitting in this position again a year from now, we may not be talking about who Caserio is adding to the roster and rather be speaking on who will be replacing him as the Texans' new GM.
