Ironcast marries two very different themes: the innocence of match-3 gameplay with the ruthlessness of rogue-likes. Unlike other match-3 games that let you solve levels at an orderly pace, Ironcast will pressure you with the threat of permadeath in procedurally generated levels.
Set in a steampunk 19th century in Britain, you belong to a regiment of mecha-riders defending against a French invasion. Players can gain different rewards and upgrades depending on which levels they take on, allowing you to plan ahead what kind of challenges and rewards you'll be taking.
While the game has been low-key, it received a lot of positive reviews from critics. It never reached mainstream success, which means this front page highlight could help it gain the number of players it actually deserves.
