On Wednesday, many were surprised that Boston Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas was ruled out of their game against the Orlando Magic as there were not a lot of reports on his groin injury suffered prior to that day.

However, the team's General Manager and President of Basketball Operations, Danny Ainge, gave an update on the 5-foot-9 All-Star's status for their next match on Friday when they face the Toronto Raptors.

“It's just day to day. He is a warrior. He loves to play. He'll be back faster than most players would be back after an injury. But at the same time we really have to be careful with Isaiah for the long haul and make sure that he doesn't come back and re-injure it. So I'm not sure about the answer. I don't know if he'll play Friday. Probably not. … And we'll just try to get him as much rest as we can and get him back on the court when he's ready.”

Thomas is now officially listed as doubtful but based on Ainge's statement, he is almost certain not to play on Friday as the team is taking a cautious approach on his injury.

It is very understandable why the Celtics will not risk Thomas' condition since it's still early in the season and they would like to preserve his health as the team looks to make a deeper run in the playoffs.

The 27-year-old Washington product is the leader of the young Celtics team and is playing at an elite level once again this campaign with averages of 26.0 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game.

Marcus Smart is expected to start in Thomas' place with Terry Rozier seeing an uptick in his minutes during his absence.
