The last time New York Knicks owner James Dolan picked a long-tenured team president, it ended in a disastrous failure that need not be repeated.

Isiah Thomas has been a mention for the team president role for the Knicks, which would be a less than enthusiastic choice for the fanbase. Thomas served as the Knicks' president of basketball operations from 2003 to 2008 and hasn't returned to an NBA front office since.

According to Frank Isola of the NY Daily News, Thomas is a “dark-horse candidate” to return to his former job to complete the work ex-president Phil Jackson didn't get to finish.

Despite those reports, Thomas remains as the current president of business and basketball operations for the WNBA's New York Liberty, and a part-time TNT/NBA TV studio analyst.

The 56-year-old Hall of Famer starkly rejected the notion of returning to the Knicks Thursday via Twitter.

The team is currently looking to fill the vacant spot with GM Steve Mills handling front office affairs in the meantime.
