The inaugural season of the Basketball Africa League is starting soon, and a major American rap star will be participating. That would be known hoops lover J. Cole, who plans to officially sign a contract with the Rwanda Patriots BBC on Thursday, according to Marc Spears of The Undefeated.
The New Times Rwanda originally broke the news over the weekend regarding J. Cole's potential participation in the Basketball Africa League:

This move comes just in time for the drop of J. Cole's new album, The Off-Season, on Friday. Rwanda's first game of the BAL season is then on Sunday against the Nigeria River Hoopers.
Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium says J. Cole plans to play three to six games in the BAL.
J. Cole was a star high school basketball player in North Carolina before walking on at St. John's. He didn't play with the Johnnies, though, as he soon turned his attention to his rap career.
While he certainly made the the right call given his rap stardom, J. Cole clearly still loves hoops and has had NBA flirtations in the past. Master P said last year J. Cole was hoping to try out for an NBA team one day, and the Detroit Pistons responded by inviting him for a tryout.
While J. Cole is likely never going to make it on an NBA roster, it will be fun to watch him play in the Basketball Africa League. Maybe he actually gets that NBA tryout if he shows out.
