UFC middleweight Jack Hermansson is finally set to return to the cage for the first time since May 2021. The Swedish-Norwegian fighter is set to meet Sean Strickland in a main event fight set for February 2022.
The fight was first announced by ESPN. The UFC main event is not yet official as both men need to sign their contracts for the bout to become official.
Should everything go through, the two UFC middleweights will meet in a five-rounder on February 5, 2022. The fight received mixed reactions on social media as some were hoping for either a different fight for Sean Strickland or for a three-round bout.
Jack Hermansson fought once in 2021 with a solid victory over middleweight prospect Edmen Shahbazyan at UFC Vegas 27. The win put him back on track after losing to Marvin Vettori back in December 2020.
Before that, Jack Hermansson held wins over Kelvin Gastelum and Ronaldo Souza to announce himself into the top-ten of the UFC middleweight division. He also suffered losses to Jared Cannonier and the previously mentioned Vettori, which set him back.
Sean Strickland was supposed to face Luke Rockhold at UFC 268 until the former champion pulled out due to an injury. A replacement was never found and Strickland has to wait until February to return.
Sean Strickland announced his arrival in the UFC middleweight division with a big win over Uriah Hall back in July. He currently finds himself on a five-fight win streak with some impressive performances.
A win for either man in February will put them in a good position in the top-10 of the UFC middleweight division.
