After being linked to the team for more than a year, free-agent pass-rusher Jadeveon Clowney has signed a one-year deal with the Cleveland Browns, according to Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot. The deal is reportedly in the $10 million a year range.

The Browns have targeted Clowney for years. The first overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft reportedly turned down a lucrative contract in last year’s free agency. The 28-year-old eventually signed a one-year, $13 million deal with the Tennessee Titans.

But after the deal with the Titans expired, talks between the two parties again progressed, with Clowney making two recent visits to Cleveland to try to get a deal done. Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the three-time Pro Bowler already passed his physical with the Browns and has high hopes with the AFC North contenders.

The former Houston Texan played just eight games for the Titans last season, finishing with 19 combined tackles, four passes defended, and one forced fumble before suffering a knee injury that ended his season in November. Clowney underwent surgery for the injury later in December and will be making a return for the Browns in time for the 2021 season.

The South Carolina product will be joining a Cleveland team that is coming off an 11-5 season that saw them return to the playoffs after a long absence before losing in the Divisional Round to the Kansas City Chiefs. Clowney will join a pass-rushing group that also includes All-Pro Myles Garrett and Takkarist McKinley, who signed with the Browns after playing for the Las Vegas Raiders and Atlanta Falcons.

In his seven seasons in the NFL, Clowney has tallied a total of 255 tackles, 86 quarterback hits, and 32 sacks during stints with the Texans, the Seattle Seahawks, and the Titans. Cleveland is hoping Clowney can return to some of his old form while proving he still has plenty of gas left in the tank.
