We often hear about the trouble and drama in the lives of NBA athletes, but rarely how players are sometimes generous givers and the charity work they participate in, which falls far beyond headline news.

In the case of the Boston Celtics forward Jae Crowder, he had much different luck this time around.

After venting about the Celtics not acquiring Kevin Durant in free agency, calling it a ‘slap in the face', Crowder directed his energy to something more positive, and helpful to the community.

Crowder, accompanied by teammate Amir Johnson at the Mill Amphitheater, held his second annual back-to-school bash, where he donated supplies for the children in the community.

Mayor Shirley Marchman declared July 28th ‘Jae Crowder Day' to honor him for his community work.

The Villa Rica native was also awarded the Key to the City, and posted a message on twitter, elated about the honor from his hometown.
