Despite failing to reach his unrealistic goal of 200 receiving yards in his debut, Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Dede Westbrook is getting praise from all the right people this week.

“The one thing I’m happy with is that it’s not too big,” head coach Doug Marrone said, via the Florida Times-Union. “In other words, Westbrook came in there and he made a big play down the sideline. He had the opportunity to make another play, but I’m happy with seeing that type of confidence. I liked his effort, I really did. I thought he did a nice job in the blocking aspect of it. He’ll get better each time he’s out there.”

For those unaware, as inferred in the open of this post, Dede Westbrook wanted 200 yards receiving in his debut.

“My expectations are high,” Westbrook said on “Teal & Black Blitz” on SportsRadio 930, via ESPN.com. “I always set the standard high for myself. For me, and this has nothing to do with the Cleveland Browns at all, but my expectation is a 200-yard receiving game. Of course that’s going to come with me and Blake [Bortles] being on the same page most of the game, but at the end of the day, that’s the expectations that I have for myself this weekend.”

He didn't exactly come close to accomplishing that goal. Instead, the rookie caught three passes for 35 yards.

No matter. No one actually expected Westbrook, who was coming off an injury, to debut like a modern day Jerry Rice. What is actually important here is that the head coach believes in him and the receiver believes in himself.

Now, if only the Jaguars had a good QB to actually get him the ball…
