Cody Kessler has taken over as the starting quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars. After it was announced that Blake Bortles would be heading to the bench this week against the Indianapolis Colts, Kessler was named the starter and he could not be more excited for another chance to prove himself.

In an interview with Jacksonville.com shared via Pro Football Talk, Kessler opened up about his excitement and being ready to start this week against the red-hot Colts.

“As a competitor, I am excited. It is tough to get opportunities in this league. To have one, I am very excited. We have had a close quarterback room, so when things happen like that it is part of the business, but at the same time it is a little rough. Just moving forward on this side. It is a great opportunity for me this week. Hoping to get the guys to rally around me and turn this thing around. I am really looking forward to it.”

During his career to this point, Kessler has had a chance to start. He had that chance in Cleveland and actually showed flashes of potential. Unfortunately, things didn't work out long-term and the Browns are now happy with Baker Mayfield as their starter anyway.

Jacksonville has been searching for more consistency at the quarterback position. They are 3-8 this season after being hyped up as a Super Bowl contender throughout the entire offseason.

Kessler did receive a small amount of playing time earlier this season, completing 21 of his 30 pass attempts for 156 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.

At 25 years old, Kessler has a chance to make an impression on the Jaguars' front office. They are still likely to go into the 2019 NFL Draft looking for a quarterback, but he is being given a chance to show what he's made of.
