The Jacksonville Jaguars signed Aaron Lynch in free agency this offseason and it appears his tenure with the team will be short-lived. Shortly after the Jaguars began training camp, defensive end Aaron Lynch plans to retire, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

As ESPN's Field Yates pointed out, Lynch is the second defensive lineman for the Jaguars to retire in the past two days.

Besides Lynch, Rodney Gunter retired from the NFL on Sunday after previously signing with the Jaguars this offseason. However, unlike Lynch — who retired voluntarily — Gunter retired due to a heart condition that could present risks if he continued his career.

Lynch kick-started his career as a fifth-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in the 2014 NFL Draft. In his first four seasons in the Bay Area, Lynch accumulated 15 sacks, 29 tackles for loss, and 46 quarterback hits.

Then, after spending four years with the 49ers, Lynch signed with the Chicago Bears in 2018. The South Florida product would combine for five sacks, seven tackles for loss, and 17 quarterback hits in his two seasons with the Bears. The Jaguars could have offered a place for a new start, but it won't happen.

Earlier this offseason in free agency, the Jaguars signed Lynch in hopes he could provide depth for them on the defensive line. Plus, with the uncertain situation surrounding Yannick Ngakoue, Jacksonville could use all of the bodies they can at defensive end.

Of course, the Jaguars are excited about the futures of Josh Allen and rookie K'Lavon Chaisson off of the edge. But with Lynch and Gunter opting to retire, Jacksonville will likely be in the market for defensive linemen soon.
