It is no secret that the relationship between the Jacksonville Jaguars and running back Leonard Fournette did not end the 2018 NFL season on the best of terms. Fortunately, it appears they may have made some progress.

The two sides were finally able to meet and clear the air last week. According to Michael DiRocco of ESPN, Marrone is optimistic about their relationship moving forward:

“We had a good meeting,” Jaguars coach Doug Marrone said. “I’m not going to speak for Leonard, but when he left that meeting I think he’s in a really good place. So, that's encouraging, and I'm excited about that.”

This is certainly an encouraging sign for the Jaguars. They had endured a grueling 2018 NFL season that was magnified by all the drama regarding Fournette. Fortunately, it seems they were able to come to an understanding about their future together.

Despite Marrone's comments, it remains to be seen if Fournette feels the same way. There has been plenty of speculation regarding his role on the team after a tumultuous season. The Jaguars made quite the investment when they selected him with the fourth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, it is unclear if the team is still committed to him as their workhorse back.

There is no question that Fournette is still one of the most talented, young backs in the league. However, his off-field issues and track record with injuries have raised concern about whether or not he is still capable of playing at a high level. It will be interesting to see if Fournette can erase any doubt come training camp.
