Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew is ready to prove he is the best quarterback option for the team going forward. Minshew started more games than Nick Foles during the 2019 season and showed he was on his way to being a solid NFL quarterback.

Even with the success, coach Doug Marrone made it clear the team would take some time, to make sure they have the right guy under center going forward.

“I got two and a half months right now to work my tail off to be as ready as I can be for my team,” Minshew said via Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. “We’ll show back up and I’m gonna try to prove I’m the best guy for my team and that I can help us win games. Anything beyond that is beyond my control.”

Even if Minshew does play better, depending on the team's thinking, he could still be at a disadvantage. Foles still has three years left on his contract, and if the team wanted to move on from after the 2020 season they would have to eat $12.5 million in dead cap space.

With such a big contract handed out, the team could give Foles every opportunity to try and earn some of that contract. The NFL is also a business based on wins and losses, and coach Marrone knows that the team needs to have success this year or his job could be in trouble.

If Gardner Minshew gives the Jaguars the best chance to win, they need to start him in 2020.
