The Jacksonville Jaguars have officially ushered in a new era under center with Gardner Minshew. It appears tight end Tyler Eifert is already impressed with what he has seen from his new quarterback.

The restrictions placed in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic have largely limited teams to virtual meetings with their players. Regardless, Eifert said during an appearance on Sirius XM NFL Radio that Gardner Minshew has had no problems taking command of the locker room:

“Getting to know Gardner a little bit, he’s hard worker,” Eifert said. “He took charge, took initiative during the OTAs to get the guys together aside from our OTA meetings. We’d get on and do like a virtual walkthrough. It’s just good to learn a little bit different than just looking at your installs and trying to memorize it. You’ve got to think on your feet a little bit.”

It is encouraging to see that Gardner Minshew continues to earn the respect of his teammates. His efforts are indicative of his commitment to embracing a leadership role within the franchise moving forward.

Gardner Minshew is coming off a promising rookie season that saw him throw for 3,271 yards, 21 touchdowns, and six interceptions while providing a much-needed jolt of energy for a struggling Jaguars team. The former sixth-round pick will now be tasked with showing that his efforts were not a fluke and he is capable of keeping the resurgence going in the 2020 NFL season.

Eifert is among the notable additions the Jaguars made this offseason to help improve the offense. The veteran is coming off his healthiest year yet and will be looking to etch out a role as a potential safety net for Gardner Minshew in the passing game.
