The Jamaal Charles experience didn’t last long for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Within just a couple of weeks since the Jaguars signed the veteran running back, the team has decided to waive Charles, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

This update on Charles does not come as a big surprise, considering that he was only signed by the Jags on Oct. 9 largely because the team needed backfield depth with Leonard Fournette having hamstring issues. But now that the Jaguars have Carlos Hyde, it’s understandable why they viewed Charles as a roster excess. Jacksonville acquired Hyde from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a 2019 fifth-round draft pick 10 days after the Jags signed Charles.

However, it’s not only Hyde’s presence that served as the impetus for Jacksonville to waive Charles. According to the Jags’ official Twitter account, Charles was released in order to accommodate linebacker Nick DeLuca to the 53-man roster.
