The Jacksonville Jaguars could release wide receiver Marqise Lee this offseason, notes John Oehser of the Jaguars' team website.

If the Jaguars do cut Lee, it would hardly come as a surprise.

The 28-year-old has two years remaining on his current deal and is scheduled to earn $6.25 million in 2020 and $8.25 million in 2021. With Jacksonville being strapped for cash and Lee being incredibly injury-prone, it would probably be more surprising if the Jags didn't part with Lee this offseason.

Lee played in just six games this past year after hitting the injured reserve list due to a shoulder injury. During the time he was on the field, he was a non-factor, logging just three catches for 18 yards.

The Inglewood, Ca. native, who played his collegiate football at the University of Southern California, was originally selected by the Jaguars in the second round (39th pick overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Since then, Lee has played in just one full 16-game campaign, which came in 2016 when he hauled in 63 receptions for 851 yards and three touchdowns.

He had another solid year in 2017, appearing in 14 contests and catching 56 passes for 702 yards and three scores, resulting in Jacksonville handing Lee a three-year, $38 million contract extension that offseason, but in a preseason game that ensuing August, Lee suffered a season-ending knee injury that would ultimately require surgery.

With the Jags also having an impressive group of young wide outs in DJ Chark, Dede Westbrook and Chris Conley, keeping Lee around at his current salary wouldn't make much sense, particularly given that he has barely played over the last two seasons.
