The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to hire John DeFilippo as their new offensive coordinator, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

DeFilippo had spent last season as the Minnesota Vikings but was fired late in the season. He was previously the quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles during their Super Bowl run in 2017 and was also the OC for the Cleveland Browns in 2015.

DeFilippo was widely criticized for the Vikings’ subpar offense, which finished just 19th with 22.5 points per game despite the high-profile free-agent addition of quarterback Kirk Cousins.

The lack of a running game was a big factor in their struggles. The Vikings were one of the worst teams in the league on the ground, averaging just 93.3 yards per game (30th in the NFL).

DeFilippo will now look to turn around a Jaguars offense which also struggled mightily this season. The team fired OC Nathaniel Hackett at the end of November following a string of disappointing performances. Jacksonville finished second from bottom in scoring, averaging a mere 15.3 points per game.

The Jaguars are expected to finally move on from starting quarterback Blake Bortles this offseason after a disastrous campaign. They could also cut ties with star running back Leonard Fournette after voiding the remaining guarantees on his contract.

Fournette, who was the centerpiece of the Jaguars offense during their run to the AFC championship game in the 2017 season, had an injury-hit season.

DeFilippo will have his work cut out for him if the Jaguars don’t find capable replacements for Bortles and Fournette, as well as more reliable receiving weapons.
