The Jacksonville Jaguars are strapped for cash, which means they may have to release some prominent members of their roster to free up some room.

One victim could be cornerback A.J. Bouye.

According to John Oehser of the Jaguars' team website, Jacksonville is likely to release Bouye for salary-cap reasons.

While Jalen Ramsey may have gotten most of the glory in the Jags' secondary during the 2017-18 campaign when the club made it all the way to the AFC Championship Game, Bouye was pretty darn good himself.

In what was his first season with the Jaguars, Bouye made the Pro Bowl after registering 56 tackles, six interceptions and 18 passes defended.

Bouye wasn't quite as good in 2018, finishing with 54 tackles, a pick and eight passes defended, and this past season, he posted similar numbers, totaling 65 tackles, an interception and eight passes defended.

However, while his play may have dropped off since 2017, Bouye has hardly been bad, so if he does get cut, he could end up being one of the more sought-after cornerbacks on the free-agent market.

The 28-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Central Florida, went undrafted in 2013 but ultimately landed with the Houston Texans as a free agent.

He spent the first four seasons of his career with the Texans, becoming a full-time starter in 2016 and paving the way to a five-year, $67.5 million contract with the Jaguars in March 2017.

Jacksonville won just six games and missed the playoffs this past season. Since making it to the AFC Championship Game in 2017-18, the Jags have gone just 11-21.
