The Jacksonville Jaguars could be a potential landing spot for recently released Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.

The Bengals have Gardner Minshew who is expected to be the starting quarterback for the 2020 season, but before the draft general manager Dave Caldwell said the team could always bring in competition, according to his comments to John Reid of the Florida Times-Union:

″I know Coach [Doug] Marrone likes to bring in three quarterbacks into camp for rep purposes … We’ll get through the draft and if one presents itself, we’ll pull the trigger. If not, we’ll look to see what’s on the street [free agency].″

Along with Minshew, the Jaguars have Joshua Dobbs and rookie Jake Luton who was selected in the sixth round out of Oregon State. Head coach Doug Marrone said to Reid that he's open to a quarterback competition this year even though he's a Minshew supporter:

″Gardner is our guy and I’m excited about that … But do I want competition for him? Absolutely, you want competition for everybody. But the one thing about Gardner he has shown some good things last year and he’s a go right now working his … off. If you’re asking me if I’m happy with Gardner — absolutely.″

Even if Jacksonville plans on starting Minshew for the 2020 season, bringing in Dalton wouldn't be a terrible idea. Dobbs hasn't had many chances to prove his worth, but Dalton, with his experience, would no doubt be great for the quarterback room.

If Minshew were to struggle early in the season, Dalton would also be a great fallback option to potentially save their season should it come to that.
