The Jacksonville Jaguars made their big free agency signing with quarterback Nick Foles. Now it's all about getting the right people around him. The Jaguars are trying to do just that with James O'Shaughnessy.

James O'Shaughnessy might not be the flashiest move. However, re-signing the tight end was absolutely the right move. He joined the Jacksonville Jaguars before the 2017 season and had his best year in the NFL with 14 catches for 149 yards and one touchdown.

Then in 2018, he built upon that even further, hauling in 24 receptions for 214 yards.

Again, these numbers aren't anything to turn your head about. They do give the Jaguars a solid backup at the tight end position though. Even more importantly, he's someone that knows the system and will come at a cheap price tag.

Admittedly, the terms of the deal aren't yet known. It's hard to imagine the Jaguars shelled out a massive contract on the tight end though.

As of right now, the Jaguars don't have much power at the position. O'Shaughnessy's 24 receptions were second-most last season by a tight end that's currently on the roster (Geoff Swaim had 26).

Swaim missed time last year though, and Ben Koyack didn't even appear in a game, although he showed promise his rookie season in 2016 though.

Due to that, it's important for Jacksonville to figure this position out. If that means bringing back a known entity, so be it. However, don't expect this to be the end of the announcements at the position.

Currently there are four tight ends on the roster. The three named already and Pharaoh McKever.

McKever has yet to appear in an NFL game. Meanwhile, Koyak saw a significant decrease in playing time and production from 2016 to 2017, then missed all of 2018. Finally, Swaim has never played with the Jaguars before.

Due to all that, O'Shaughnessy could actually be a very important part of this team. If the Jaguars decide to keep these four (or some variation of them), expect him to get an increased role in 2019.

At the same time, if they decide to bring someone else in (via the draft or free agency) don't be surprised if it's O'Shaughnessy that gets the most time out of these four.

The Jacksonville Jaguars might not have made the biggest splash with this move, but James O'Shaughnessy brings value to the tight end position.
