After six years with the team, the Jacksonville Jaguars are releasing 28-year-old wide receiver Marqise Lee per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Originally drafted by the Jaguars in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft after a dominant career at USC, Lee was expected the be the top receiver for the Jaguars going forward.

Lee struggled to find consistent playing time in his first two seasons, only grabbing a combined 52 passes for 613 yards and two touchdowns. However, in his third season, Lee showed that he could have a major impact at the NFL level when he recorded 63 catches for 851 yards and three touchdowns.

The former USC star followed that season up with a solid 702 yards and another three touchdowns in 2017 and it appeared that Lee had carved out a role as a solid No. 2 or 3 option in the league.

Unfortunately, Lee suffered a torn ACL, MCL and PCL during the 2018 preseason that forced him to sit out a year and since then, the once-promising pass-catcher has struggled with injuries.

After catching just three passes for 18 yards in the Jags' first six games this past season, Lee was put on Injured Reserve in October with a shoulder injury.

The emergence of wideouts such as DJ Chark, Chris Conley and Dede Westbrook have made Lee less valuable and despite signing a four-year, $38 million deal with Jacksonville in 2018, it's now clear that the franchise is ready to move on from their former second-round selection.

According to Rapoport, Lee is completely healthy and has been medically cleared just days before the 2020 NFL draft.
