Throughout the entire offseason, former Pro Bowl running back Jamaal Charles had been on the open market looking for his next gig in the league.

However, it had been almost entirely quiet on that front through Week 5 of this season, which had quickly changed on Tuesday morning as he inked a deal to join the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The decision to bring aboard Charles comes shortly after the team had lost running back Corey Grant for the year due to suffering a Lisfranc injury to his left foot during the Jaguars' 30-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday. Meanwhile, second-year running back Leonard Fournette is still working his way back from a nagging hamstring injury that has kept him out of action in three out of the first five games played this year. There is also no timetable for his return as he has already been declared out for Week 6 action against the Dallas Cowboys.

The addition of Charles brings some much-needed depth to the running back position behind backup T.J. Yeldon, who has been serving as the primary starter in place of Fournette. Yeldon has provided solid production this season racking up 258 rushing yards and a touchdown along with 22 receptions for 194 receiving yards and three touchdowns. This has brought forward the need to add more depth behind him with a proven a running back.

There is no clarity as to what type of impact Charles can bring at this point of his career, but it is another opportunity for him to make an impact. He had shown flashes of that with the Denver Broncos last season despite playing in a limited backup role behind C.J. Anderson. This is a fresh chance for him to make his mark while potentially respark his career in Jacksonville a potential Super Bowl contending team.
