The Jacksonville Jaguars formidable defense just got a little stouter. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Jags have signed rookie defensive tackle Taven Bryan to a sweet four-year deal worth $10.2 million that comes with a $5.5 million signing bonus.

Jacksonville selected Bryan in this year’s NFL Draft as the 29th overall pick. Bryan, who played college football at Florida, will add another piece to an already deep Jaguars defensive line which also includes defensive tackles Malik Jackson and Marcel Dareus.

That talented D-line that was one of the biggest reasons why the team made quite a leap last season. From finishing with a 3-13 record in the 2016 campaign, the Jaguars improved to 10-6 in 2017 and made the franchise’s first playoffs appearance since 2007.

Taven Bryan was among the few bright spots on a Florida Gators team that went 3-5 in the SEC and just 4-7 overall in 2017. In his final year in Gainesville, Bryan recorded 37 total tackles and 4.0 sacks.

Bryan does not project to be an opening week starter for the Jags, but he’s someone that could develop and step in for one of the team's veterans in time.

At 6-foot-5 and with a 291-pound frame, Bryan blends his size with impressive agility and speed that allows him to mess up opposing offensive sets in the trenches.
