Unlike fellow cornerback A.J. Bouye, Jalen Ramsey has not returned to take part in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ OTAs. However, Jags head coach Doug Marrone said last week that he expects his star corner to be back in time for mandatory minicamp next week.

“Jalen will be here for mandatory minicamp,” Jaguars coach Doug Marrone said Friday, via quotes distributed by the team. “He is training with his dad.”

Marrone has previously said he’s spoken with Ramsey about his absence, but he did not specify publicly what Ramsey’s reasons are.

Meanwhile, Jaguars defensive coordinator Todd Wash says he’s fully confident that Ramsey, who is training with his father while he’s away from the team, will be ready and in shape when he returns to the team.

″I am not worried about him coming back not being in shape,” Wash said per Joh Reid of the Florida Times-Union. “That is the last thing from our mind. We know with Jalen, how he prepares, when he comes back he is going to be ready to go.”

Ramsey is coming off a brilliant sophomore season for the Jaguars as he recorded four interceptions and 63 tackles en route to First-Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors. He and Bouye instantly formed arguably the best cornerback duo in the entire league, which was a huge part of the Jaguars’ successful run to the AFC Championship Game last year.

It’s obviously not ideal for the Jaguars to be without one of their most important players as they prepare for the new season. But they will at least have Ramsey ready to go for mandatory minicamp, which is the best that they could hope for.
