The Jacksonville Jaguars decided to trade for Josh Dobbs earlier in the week amidst Nick Foles' injury. In the short time that Dobbs has spent with the Jaguars, he believes he fits well in their offensive system.

“It meshes with my talents a lot,” Dobbs said per Jaguars.com. “It has very similar concepts to what I’ve run in college. I think that in itself gives you some comfort. Plays you’ve run, progressions you’ve made, reads you’ve seen throws, that you’ve made already … it might be called something different, but it’s good to see plays I’ve been successful in. That’s what I’ve seen right now, and I’ve only been here a day and a half.”

The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Dobbs in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Tennessee. When they drafted him, their initial plan was to develop him as their future starter when Ben Roethlisberger retires.

Then, their plans changed when they selected Mason Rudolph in the third round of last year's draft. With the arrival of Rudolph, Pittsburgh decided to have both of their young quarterbacks compete for the backup job this preseason.

In the end, Rudolph got the nod as the backup to Roethlisberger in Week 1. Just a day after Dobbs was declared inactive for the Steelers in Week 1, the team traded him to the Jaguars.

The Jaguars are expected to move forward with rookie Gardner Minshew as their starter with Foles being placed on injured reserve. Despite him starting, they wanted to bring in Dobbs to provide themselves with some insurance.

In two seasons in the NFL, Dobbs has rarely seen the field, but he has displayed an ability to extend plays with his legs. Fortunately for him, Jacksonville's offensive system is made to allow quarterbacks with his skill set to excel.
