Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Marcell Dareus was cited for possession of marijuana after a traffic stop early Wednesday morning by Atlanta Beach police, per Justin Barney of News 4 Jax.

Per the incident report, via Barney, Dareus was pulled over slightly before 2 a.m. for speeding. The officer’s report had his vehicle going about 50 mph in a 35 mph zone. The officer also noted that a strong odor of marijuana came from the vehicle.

After conducting a search, the officer found two joints and a marijuana grinder, per Barney. Neither Dareus or the three passengers in the vehicle took responsibility for any of the items.

Dareus was issued a notice to appear for misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana under 20 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. Reportedly, he received a verbal warning for speeding.

On Friday, the Jaguars released a statement on the matter, saying “The Jaguars are aware of a citation involving Marcell Dareus. The matter will be handled internally.″

It's currently unknown how the Jaguars or the league will handle the matter, other than the team will handle it internally.

Dareus is a two-time Pro Bowler (during his time with the Buffalo Bills). Since the Jaguars acquiring him in 2017, he's been their full-time starting defensive tackle. In three games of 2019 play, he has recorded six combined tackles and 0.5 sacks.

The Jaguars face the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET. Both teams are entering the games 2-2, led by their backup quarterback sensations, Gardner Minshew and Kyle Allen. It is unknown if Dareus will play the game.
