The Jacksonville Jaguars have ruled out wide receiver Marqise Lee (knee) and cornerback A.J. Bouye (hip) for Sunday's game against the Houston Texans, the team reported.

Jacksonville is already down quarterback Nick Foles (collarbone), left tackle Cam Robinson (knee), defensive end Yannick Ngakeou (hamstring), tight end Josh Oliver (hamstring), and offensive lineman Cedric Ogbuehi (hamstring). It's fair to say the Jaguars are shorthanded on Sunday.

On Friday, coach Doug Marrone spoke on Bouye's status before officially ruling him out, via the team's official website.

“Probably doubtful. We’ll just be ready to go (with a backup). We’re planning on him probably not playing. I’m sure he’s going to give it everything he has to try to be healthy.”

Marrone mentioned that Tre Herndon would likely get the start. A second-year undrafted prospect out of Vanderbilt, Herndon logged 11 games for the Jaguars in 2018, in the process, recording 13 combined tackles. According to Pro Football Reference, he allowed a 142.2 passer rating in coverage as a rookie.

Herndon will be tasked with slowing down one of Will Fuller or Kenny Stills, two deep-threat targets for Houston. The corner opposite him, Jalen Ramsey, has his work cut out for another matchup against two-time All-Pro DeAndre Hopkins.

On Sunday, rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew will get his first NFL start. He'll be without one of the team's more talented receivers in Lee, and their starting left tackle in Robinson. The defense, without Ngakeou, should feature more Josh Allen. Marrone and Co. have a tricky task of containing Deshaun Watson without one of their best pass-rushers and cornerbacks.
