Jacksonville Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette was one of the biggest disappointments in the NFL this past season, as injuries limited in to eight games and he finished with just 439 yards and five touchdowns while averaging a meager 3.3 yards per carry.

Still, the Jaguars have hope that he will rebound in 2019, and offensive coordinator John DeFilippo expects Fournette to be a big part of the offense this coming season:

“He’s a big guy who can run fast,” DeFilippo said, according to the Jaguars' official team website. “He’s got great vision and he’s got great energy on the field. We’re really looking forward to him having a big year. I’m going to call it what it is, he’s going to be a major reason where our offense goes and I’m not going to sugarcoat that. Leonard Fournette needs to be a big part of this offense. The harder he works, which he is right now, I think that’s going to not only be good for our offense but good for our team.”

Fournette, who played his collegiate football at LSU, was originally selected by Jacksonville with the fourth overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

His career got off to a nice start during his rookie campaign, as he totaled 1,040 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. He only registered 3.9 yards per attempt, but his impact on the game was palpable, and he played a huge role in leading the Jaguars all the way to the AFC Championship Game.

Fournette then looked like a shell of his 2017 self this past year, but to be fair to Fournette, so did the Jags' entire team as a whole, as Jacksonville went on to win just five games.
