One of the questions that have arose following Dave Caldwell's dismissal as Jacksonville Jaguars general manager is if this is just the first step in a complete overhaul of the franchise.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Jaguars owner Shad Khan has assured head coach Doug Marrone that Caldwell's firing is not just the start and he is safe, at least for the time being.

While this is a good sign for Marrone and his coaching staff, the “through the end of the 2020 season” part does not make his position at the helm completely secure. If he is not able to right the ship at least a little bit he could very well be out of a job once the 2020 season is over. The Jaguars are currently 1-10.

Marrone has been the head coach for the Jaguars since 2017, which was his best season with the franchise. That season he led the Jaguars to the playoffs for the first time since 2007 and led the team all the way to the AFC Championship Game before losing to the New England Patriots. Since then, however, the Jaguars have not had a winning record. The most wins since was six last season.

Caldwell was fired Sunday afternoon following the Jaguars 27-25 loss to the Cleveland Browns. There has been no indication yet on who will be the interim GM or if Khan has any candidates in mind for the future. The firing seems to be the only move Khan and the Jaguars will make at the moment, however.
