The Jacksonville Jaguars have quite the quarterback conundrum on their hands after what transpired in the 2019 NFL season. Fortunately, team owner Shad Khan feels it is a good problem to have.

There has been plenty of debate regarding which quarterback the Jaguars should move forward with between Nick Foles and Gardner Minshew. Khan is happy to have multiple viable options under center for a change, via John Oehser of the team website:

“Frankly, this past year proved you better have two competent quarterbacks, OK?” owner Shad Khan said. “There were a number of teams if they didn’t have a competent [backup] quarterback [in 2019], they wouldn’t have made it. If you look at it, from where we’ve come from . . . an argument could be made we didn’t have any competent quarterbacks, so this is, in a way, an embarrassment of riches for us in a good way that we do have two very good quarterbacks. I think as we move forward in this season – training camp or whatever – the coaches will have their work cut out to determine who gives us the best chance of winning as we move forward.”

There is certainly plenty of truth to Khan's comments considering their track record with trying to secure a franchise quarterback. They had long held out hope that Blake Bortles would eventually emerge into a franchise cornerstone after taking him with the third overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft before finally cutting ties heading into the 2019 campaign.

Although there was speculation regarding a contingency plan for the post-Bortles era, the Jaguars were able to make a splash with the signing of Foles. Unfortunately, his stint got off to a rocky start after suffering a broken clavicle in the season opener and this made way for Minshew to establish himself as one of the biggest steals of the 2019 NFL Draft after being taken in the sixth round.

While Minshew may have eventually fizzled out, Foles did not fare much better in his return from injury. As a result, it appears the starting job may be up for grabs this offseason.

Regardless of which player wins the job, Khan has good reason to enjoy his sudden surplus under center.
