The Jacksonville Jaguars have indeed added a veteran quarterback, just not one of the signal-callers some thought they might sign this offseason.

Jacksonville is bringing in longtime backup Mike Glennon, according to ESPN's Dianna Russini. Russini also notes the team told free agent quarterbacks that Gardner Minshew's place as the starter was solidified.

The Jags have been fairly consistent in their messaging. Head coach Doug Marrone previously indicated the team had interest in a veteran quarterback, but also made a resounding showing of support for Minshew as the starter.

Jacksonville also traded Nick Foles to clear the way for Minshew, and–as Russini stated–made it clear to a number of players on the market they would be backups if they signed with the Jags.

It only seems reasonable for the Jags to get behind Minshew. After all, this is the first year of a true rebuild in Jacksonville.

The Jaguars traded cornerback A.J. Bouye and star edge-rusher Calais Campbell, and there is still a chance they could part with Yannick Ngakoue, who seems willing to sit out the year on the franchise tag.

Minshew, meanwhile, showed plenty of potential under center in 2019.

The former Washington State product went 6-6 in 12 starts, throwing for 3,271 yards and 21 touchdowns against just six interceptions. Minshew displayed some decent athleticism and mobility in the pocket, and managed to put up good numbers despite a mediocre receiving corps.

Jacksonville clearly had no interest in signing a veteran so as to create a quarterback controversy or a competition. Instead, they will go forward with Minshew as their leader.
