Now entering his eighth year in the league, tight end Tyler Eifert will suit up for a team other than the Cincinnati Bengals for the first time in his career. After spending the past seven seasons with the team that drafted him, Eifert, who was a free agent this year, has signed a two-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

The financial details of the contract are currently unknown, but the signing of Eifert marks the end of an era in Cincinnati, and for Jacksonville, gives the team an upgrade at a position where they desperately needed one.

In 2015, Eifert's third year in the league, the former Notre Dame standout broke out for 615 yards and 13 touchdowns and immediately placed himself among the best players at the position.

Unfortunately, injuries have hindered Eifert since then, and the 6-foot-6, 255-pound red zone target has yet to recapture the success he experienced in 2015.

Between 2016 and 2018, Eifert played in just 14 total games. Last season was Eifert's first year playing more than eight games since 2015, and in 16 games, the 29-year-old recorded 43 catches for 436 yards and three touchdowns.

While he may no longer be a Pro-Bowl caliber talent at tight end, Eifert was the victim of some pretty poor quarterback play in Cincinnati last season and comes to Jacksonville with a clean slate.

Six different tight ends had at least one start for Jacksonville last season, and the team has been searching for a permanent starter at the position for the past few seasons. Five-year veteran James O'Shaughnessy led all tight ends on the roster with 153 yards and two touchdowns despite only playing in five games. Seth Devalve was the only other Jaguar tight end to surpass 100 yards on the season.
