A new era is underway in Jacksonville as the Jaguars enter the 2021 NFL season with the top overall pick and a new head coach in Urban Meyer. With the 2021 NFL Draft already looming on the horizon, Meyer bared that he isn't jumping the gun on a decision just yet.

“You see Trevor, you see Justin [Fields], you see Zach [Wilson],” Meyer said via the New York Post. “Whoever takes that snap, we have got to be right on… Who we pick at the quarterback spot, that’s going to be one of the most important decisions I’ve made in my lifetime.”

“The ones that are out there, I have been studying a lot, I like to use the term ‘elite.’ I see some elite quarterbacks right now.”

Despite Meyer not naming a specific player, many already see the writing on the wall that Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence will be the top selection come late April. The 21-year-old is coming off his junior season with the Tigers where he amassed 3,153 passing yards and 24 touchdowns to lead the team to a 9-1 record.

Another prospect who has increased his draft stock was Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields. He is fresh from a stint in the 2020 National Championship Game against Alabama and tallied 2,100 yards and 22 touchdowns for a 7-1 record in his junior campaign in the collegiate ranks. And obviously, the OSU ties to Meyer aren't going to be ignored.

Meanwhile, BYU's Zach Wilson is flying under the radar despite finishing a stellar season with 3,692 yards and 33 touchdowns to lead the Cougars to an 11-1 record.

With all the talent available on the board, Urban Meyer will certainly have a tough decision to make in the next few months leading up to the draft. At the end of the day, selecting the right quarterback will be pivotal in getting the Jaguars back on the right track moving forward.
