Remember when Jake DeBrusk reportedly wanted to get shipped out of Beantown ahead of the 2022 NHL trade deadline? That's now history, along with his desire to shed his Boston Bruins uniform for another uniform. According to Ryan Rishaug of TSN, DeBrusk has a change of heart and now wants to remain with the team.
Jake DeBrusk's agent Rick Valette spoke with Bruins GM Don Sweeney last week and informed him that DeBrusks trade request was rescinded, and that he'd be happy to remain a Bruin moving forward. DeBrusk has 2 years left at 4m, and could still be moved but unlikely at this point.
The Jake DeBrusk trade saga is lengthy, though it now appears that it's about to die down following this revelation. Plus, he signed a two-year extension with the Bruins back in March, one that's worth $8 million. However, nothing is really final when it comes to mutual feelings between a player and a team, especially in pro sports, so it wouldn't be surprising to hear sometime in the future that the forward is making overtures at the very least about wanting to get traded.
Jake DeBrusk still has two years left on his current contract that carries an AAV worth $4 million until the end of the 2023-24 NHL season. Still just 25 years old, DeBrusk recovered from a letdown campaign in the 2020-21 NHL season when he scored just five goals in 41 games a total of 25 goals to go with 17 assists in the 2021-22 NHL season despite a slow start.
