Los Angeles Lakers have an opportunity to claim the franchise's 17th title on Friday, yet the man who oversaw the construction of the championship-caliber roster was overlooked for the NBA's Executive of the Year award for 2019-20.

In fact, Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka wasn't even deemed the best executive in his own city, as the honor was awarded to Los Angeles Clippers President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank.

Pelinka confusingly finished seventh in the voting, as the voters seemed to credit LeBron James, Rich Paul and Klutch Sports for an outsized influence over the roster and team's success.

Lakers forward Jared Dudley was not pleased about the vote, and voiced his outrage on Thursday in the wake of the news.

After Kawhi Leonard opted to sign with the Clippers, Frank, like Pelinka, emptied his cabinet of assets for a superstar, trading a package that included Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Danilo Gallinari, and four future first-round picks to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Paul George.

The Clippers (and George) earned the no. 2 seed in the West but flamed out in the bubble, blowing a 3-1 second round series lead to the Denver Nuggets, prompting the organization to part ways with head coach Doc Rivers.

Pelinka dealt Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and Lonzo Ball to New Orleans for Davis, who has clearly proven to be worth it. He also rounded out the roster by adding supporting players like Markieff Morris, Danny Green, Avery Bradley, and a rejuvenated Dwight Howard.

The votes are cast before the playoffs, though the Lakers finished the regular season with a better record than their LA counterpart.

Pelinka and Dudley may just have to settle for their first championship rings, instead.
