Jason Isaacs is set to play iconic actor Cary Grant in the new series Archie, Empire reported.

The Harry Potter star will be playing the Hollywood legend in the upcoming series on ITV. The series is written by Philomena writer, Jeff Pope. The drama will follow the Hollywood legend’s troubled childhood to his rise to fame.

Cary Grant was born Archiebald Alec Leach, known as one of the foremost leading men in 1930s and 1940s Hollywood. He is also famous for his roles in classic movies such as North by Northwest and The Philadelphia Story.

Speaking exclusively to the magazine about transforming into Grant, Isaacs said, “I’ve been through quite a journey.”

“The more films I watched, the more I realised that the reason he became the biggest star in the world was that you couldn’t take your eyes off him,” he added.

Isaacs read Grant biographies and spoke with the actor’s ex-wife, Dyan Cannon. He also spoke with Grant and Cannon’s daughter, Jennifer Grant, who also serves as an executive producer on the show.

“I’ve always found that you never get a fuller picture of someone than by talking to the people who love them, or who had their hearts broken by them,” Isaacs remarked about his conversations with Grant’s family.

The British actor, who recently starred in The Crowded Room, sat in the make-up chair for five hours everyday.

“I play him in his eighties, so that’s lots of prosthetics. When he’s much younger, there’s lots of architectural things pulling me up with hooks and strings,” Isaacs said wanting to embody Grant.

But more than just his physical appearance, the actor also wanted to portray Cary Grant’s presence.

“Walking into a room thinking, ‘Everybody wants me,'” he said, “just makes you strut differently, and look them in the eye differently.”

There is no definite date for the series’ premiere yet.
