Journeyman center JaVale McGee, a key cog in the Golden State Warriors‘ triumphant title-winning machine this 2017, is more than just a towering golem on the hardcourt.

In a recent interview with Complex's Adam Caparell, McGee shared his thoughts following Golden State's win in the NBA Finals amongst other topics. One particular discussion led to McGee's passion for the sonic arts, stating that he's been writing and producing music for about a decade. The amiable seven-footer also commended his teammate Kevin Durant‘s skills on the mic, even going as far as comparing him to one of rap's all-time greats:

“He actually has bars. He raps like Nas. I’ve been in his home studio and listened. He’s got a lot of songs. “

Kevin Durant: NBA champion, league MVP, eight-time All-Star… and soon-to-be multi-platinum recording artist and BET Lifetime Achievement Award-winner?

There's no question that the sky's the limit for Durant's basketball career. But even his most loyal fans have to take McGee's words with a grain (or maybe an entire truckload) of salt. After all, Slim Reapy didn't exactly rule the airwaves when he tried his hand at the rap game in 2012 with this track:

Then again, perhaps McGee's magic touch on the boards may very well bring out the best bars and flow ever recorded by an NBA player.

However and more realistically, it's also possible that these two Dubmates have sniffed one too many of Nasir Jones' special ether to boost their rap bravado. Lord knows that there's been one too many failed attempts at this endeavor. Just ask Kobe Bryant, who released a cringe-worthy track featuring supermodel and “occasional singer” Tyra Banks in 2010.
