Prior to the Los Angeles Lakers selecting Lonzo Ball with the second overall pick, his father, LaVar Ball, dominated the headlines. From his controversial statements to Big Baller Brand, Ball has become a polarizing figure in all of sports.

With the rapper's comments, it will certainly create more debate about the Big Baller Brand. During the Las Vegas Summer League, Ball wore different shoe brands as he nearly averaged a triple-double en route to the Most Valuable Player award. While some speculated it was to create competition, the Big Baller Brand has reportedly not secured a partnership deal heading into the 2017-18 NBA season.
As the new season quickly approaches, all eyes will be on Ball. With great optimism in Los Angeles, the rookie point guard is expected to lead the Lakers back to contention. Along with Ball, there are high expectations for Brandon Ingram, who showed potential following All-Star weekend with a new aggressive mindset.
With President of Basketball Operations Magic Johnson and general manager Rob Pelinka setting things up for two max contract slots next summer, it will be interesting to see if unrestricted free agents LeBron James and Paul George ultimately join forces with the pass-first point guard.
