With the Philadelphia 76ers owning the third overall pick in this year’s draft, they have a chance to add another young and talented player to their roster. While many believe that De’Aaron Fox and Dennis Smith Jr. are the ones on their radar, especially with their need for a point guard, one league scout thinks there’s another player who’s a better fit for them.

The executive was recently asked to give his take on who the team needs to select, and he immediately said, via Keith Pompey of Philly.com, that it’s Duke standout Jayson Tatum. He cited his outside shooting, as well as the ability to thrive alongside Ben Simmons, who could play point guard for them, as the reasons why he’s the best option for them come June 22nd.

“What do the Sixers need?”

“Well then, they should take Tatum. He's a good shooter and would be the best player available if they're serious about Ben Simmons playing point guard.”

At 6-foot-8 and 205 pounds, Tatum is a natural at the small forward position, but is versatile enough to play shooting guard as well. Given his height, he could potentially cause some matchup problems for the team’s opponents, and bring a lot of depth to their rotation.

It remains to be seen if the Sixers will indeed take him, but even if he’s not the popular choice for the second pick, it will also be difficult to doubt him as he had a impressive run in his lone season with the Blue Devils. If the team ultimately goes on to pick him, it could mean that they will look to sign a point guard through free agency, as there will be a number of big name playmakers available in the market this summer.
