Former Boston Celtics executive Danny Ainge might not be away from the NBA for long. According to the sources of The Athletic's Tony Jones, Ainge is being eyed as a possible addition to the Utah Jazz's front office. This information comes after Dennis Lindsey stepped down from his executive vice president of basketball operations position to take over a new role for the Salt Lake City-based NBA franchise.
This signals what should turn out to be a significant front office shift for Utah. Former Boston Celtics front office executive Danny Ainge is a candidate to join the Jazz, according to sources. If he does, sources say, it is likely to be in more of an advisory role. Expect more moves to surface in the coming days and weeks, according to sources.
It could be remembered that Danny Ainge just recently announced his retirement, early June 2021, paving the way for Brad Stevens to get promoted from his head coaching gig to a job as the Celtics' president of basketball operations role.
In the event that Ainge does become part of the Jazz's think tank, he'll be bringing over a wealth of experience from an organizational standpoint. Ainge is arguably more known for his brain as an executive for the Celtics from 2003 up to his retirement this year than his time in the league as a player. He won the Executive of the Year honors in 2008, the same year the Celtics won an NBA championship.
As for the Jazz, they have an interesting offseason ahead after a disappointing early exit from the 2021 NBA Playoffs.
