Utah Jazz point guard Dante Exum has been ruled out indefinitely, according to an official injury update from the team.

Exum underwent a surgical procedure on Wednesday morning to repair a partially torn patellar tendon in his right knee. His rehabilitation process will begin as soon as possible:

Exum, now 23 years of age, left last week's 120-100 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves after just three minutes with “knee soreness.” MRI scans taken the next day revealed the tendon tear. Earlier this season, he missed 25 games with a left ankle sprain and bone bruise.

Exum has appeared in 42 games with the Jazz this season (one start), racking up averages of 6.9 points on 41.9 percent shooting from the field (29.0 percent from beyond the arc), 2.6 assists and 1.6 rebounds in 15.8 minutes per outing.

This is obviously a tough blow for Exum and the Jazz. Earlier in his career, he underwent surgery on his left knee. Hopefully, he'll be able to recover from this injury sooner rather than later.

The Jazz will be back in action on Friday night, when they'll serve as hosts to the Washington Wizards. Tip-off inside Vivint Smart Home Arena is set for 9:00 p.m. ET.
