The Utah Jazz have come to terms unrestricted free agent Derrick Favors on a new deal. Things appeared to be heading towards the right direction for the Jazz, as several sources have confirmed that a meeting between both parties turned out to be very productive.

Earlier reports indicated that Favors and his camp are considering other teams, as the 26-year-old enters the ninth season of his career.

But the latest development proves that the Jazz are not yet ready to pull the plug on Favors. Despite the fact that the 6-foot-10 big man has been somewhat underwhelming over the past couple of seasons, Utah still considers him to be an important member of their squad.

After being picked third overall by the New Jersey Nets in the 2010 NBA Draft, Favors was sent to Utah mid-year in a deal that involved Deron Williams. Although the trade package did also include Devin Harris, a future first-round pick, and cash considerations, it still says a lot about how the Jazz viewed Favors.

Injuries have definitely played a big part in Favors' career. Coming off the best season of his career the year prior, he was considered by many as one of the biggest breakout candidates in the 2016-17 season. Some even believed that he was the most important piece in the team, which also had the likes of Gordon Hayward and Rudy Gobert. Things just did not pan out as planned, as several injuries — knee trouble, IT Band Syndrome, and back problems, to name a few —  ultimately held back the former Georgia Tech standout.

The 2017-18 season was a promising one for Favors as he was able to suit up for the Jazz in 77 regular season games, as well as all 11 of the team's Playoffs matches.
